Dance for your Life
Shows women, stitched into Mud Cloth, strips, hand woven and dyed in Mali, sub Saharan West Africa.
Mali is one of the poorest countries in Africa and is in such a dangerous state of unrest that our government advises against all travel to the country at the moment. Women and children always suffer in times of war, which is why my women are dancing for their lives, in their imagination.
But the echoes of hope are fading.
This piece [when finished] and another Waving not Drowning [when finished] will be at the TAGS exhibition in July.

new plan
Friday, 24 December 2010
Stitched one of the Yorkshire many waterfalls into it. Dunno how to mount it.
Did a hand stitching class which turned into an on-going group [hurray, nice people and a whole days stitching once a fortnight with no interruptions. Didn't learn many stitches but did relax and enjoyed just straight stitching this Space Dancer. I think Dance is becoming my theme...............]
This was also started at the class, messing around on a piece of rug canvas with strips of fabric and then zig zagging over with the machine. Worked quite well but the pose of the Woman Warrior is rather strange.
